District Assessment
2023-2024 Assessment Plan
Location: Eastern Mennonite School???
Date: March ???
Times: TBA each day depending on quantity of participating ensembles
Chair: Bethany Houff???
Host: Jared Stutzman???
Participating Ensembles must prepare 2 selections for the judges. A warm-up piece is optional but recommended. You may choose to have the ensemble given scores or comments only by the judges. You'll have a 30 minute warm-up slot and a 30 minute stage/performance slot. One of the most rewarding aspects of District Choir Assessment is having one of the judges join your choir on stage and clinic with them for the remainder of your stage time. (longer performance = less time to clinic)
Then each ensemble will travel to a sight singing room to complete the sight singing portion of the event. The sight reading portion of assessment must be no lower than 2 graded levels below your stage selections. (i.e. performing as a grade 4 ensemble - sight reading must be level 2 or higher)
Groups are encouraged to stay and listen to additional groups quietly in the auditorium if they wish.
If you applied for Blue Ribbon Status - Link & Info HERE (Deadline Feb. ???)
- Each adjudicated selection must be listed in one of the lists below. Music is graded and the ensemble will be adjudicated based on the lower of the two grade levels unless they match. The sight reading portion of assessment must be no lower than 1 graded level below your stage selections. (i.e. performing as a grade 4 ensemble - sight reading must be level 3 or higher)
VCDA Literature Manual
NYSSMA Manual - These are only in hard copy. You may have to ask another director through an online director forum/group.
